Bad things don't happen in the English Lake District's lovely Kentmere valley - most of the time. But when one neighbouring farmer is accused of rustling another man's Herdwick ewes, and a local feed merchant falls victim to an apparent phishing scam, Owen Irvine is reluctantly drawn into both cases. Aided and abetted by Cumbria Police's Farming Crime Specialist PC Kathy Stone - and with the reluctant help of DI Andy Hall - Irvine needs to move fast, if he's to avert a tragedy in the valley.
But when Irvine's none-too private investigations bring him into close contact with a vicious organised criminal could it actually be Irvine - and all those he holds dear - who will find themselves in the greatest danger of all?

Another excellent book by this author. The protagonist had a short career in the police many years ago and was fired for behaviour unbecoming to a police officer (perhaps we will hear more about his downfall in future books). Owen has spent years living in a small community and working at various trades - but deep down, he is still a policeman. He is trusted and respected by his neighbours who live in this close-knit community and they come to him with problems they would not take to the police. The crimes have a local flavour (no incredible serial murderers here); the crimes are realistic. Owen's association with several local police officers has his unofficial investigations crossing paths with theirs and creating certain tensions and dilemmas. Ultimately, Owen's efforts supplement the efforts of the police in a time of budget cuts and reduced policing services.Product details

A Lamb Tale A Natural Detective Book 2 edition by J J Salkeld Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
i liked this book enough to go back and red the whole series. very good. an interesting part of England with fine descriptions, too.
Enjoyable but upsetting too. Modern. Interesting view of life in the country. I have no idea how realistic or fantastic it is.
Very much enjoy J J Salkeld's books, this was also very enjoyable.
I enjoyed this more than the first book in the series. The characters are very well described and believable. The story was intriguing. I am looking forward to reading number three.
J.J. Salkeld writes good human relationship mystery s with familiar people in the background. I feel comfortable picking up and reading one of his books at anytime.
I love JJ Salkeld's Natural Detective books. They entertain without terrible violence or much explicit sex. One can read them without bad dreams and worries. The characters are good and believable. I could do with more books like these in times when every second person is depressed.
I just like these characters. The plots of these books are unusual, interesting.
